CHARLOTTE HARBOR, FL. - Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested a homeless Port Charlotte man for Attempted Robbery of a woman parked in her car.

It happened Monday at the Shell/Circle-K station, 4395 Tamiami Trail, Charlotte Harbor.

Arrested was 55-year-old James Wayne Ellingsworth who also has arrest warrants out of Tennessee and Indiana. This is his 10th booking in Charlotte County.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman who was in her car when Ellingsworth approached and asked her for a lighter; she rolled the window down a few inches and handed to him. She told detectives Ellingsworth then reached into her vehicle, unlocked her door, opened it and said, “Give me all of your money, I want all of your money.” The woman then said she was terrified, started her vehicle and put it in reverse into an open parking area of the station. Ellingsworth approached her again, knocking on her window; he then walked over and sat on a brick wall in front of the business.

Detectives said when they arrived the woman was visibly shaken. She said he was acting weird and had never seen him before. Detectives met with Ellingsworth who was very intoxicated and he said he did ask the woman for her lighter, but denied entering her vehicle or asking for money. He did tell detectives she asked him for dog food and that he wasn’t going to buy dog food for her dog with his food stamp card. There was no dog in the woman’s vehicle.

Ellingsworth was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on no bond.

When a scary person approaches you and attempts to relieve you of your possessions, you unload every round in your .45 ACP into them and then dial 911.

Today, you have to eyes in the front, side and back of your head.
When I go to pump gas, I immediately lock my doors.
If anyone tries to talk to me, I ignore them or say I have nothing.
Women, let's get alittle smarter out there in this crazy world.
