SARASOTA COUNTY – Three vehicles were involved in a head-on crash that killed a Port Charlotte man and critically injured another person along River Road Tuesday night.
The crash happened around 10pm on River Road south of Venice Avenue.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Gerald Tindall of Port Charlotte was headed northbound on River Road when his Mustang drifted across the center line into the southbound lanes.
His car hit the left side of one vehicle then collided head-on with another car.
Tindall died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
20-year-old Brittany Thomas of Port Charlotte was the driver of the car he struck head-on. She suffered critical injuries and was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. She was wearing a seat belt.
The two occupants of the other car suffered minor injuries
River Road was completely shut down between Venice Avenue and Center Road while the scene was under investigation, but has reopened.
